I am a little over 3 months post-op from my submalar/nlf cheek microlipo. I had a major blackeye on the side that had the most work done that lasted for a good 3 weeks, had to cover it with dermablend, then powder over that followed by bronzer to blend it into my facial skin. I am good with makeup and no one ever asked or said anything, although I'm sure in broad daylight a trained eye could see something was up so I wore a baseball cap. After the blackeye faded it turned into a dark circle and is still there at 3 months post and hasn't seemed to get any lighter. Now I have to wear MAC studio fix concealer under that eye followed by a bronzer to blend it in and it's getting on my last nerve. I did the whole Arnica pellets thing in the beginning and even the cream (trust me, that cream does NOTHING so don't even bother with it). Is there anything that I can do or is this something permanent? Some people said it can take 8 months or so which I can live with, but if it's permanent I'll be upset.

There are cases of a type of blue staining when someone has had prior tetracycline and then some pigment from the vessels stays there. It's something treated with laser later down the line.

I've been having problems with computer since May. I'm on a loaner now and still waiting for a new one. If I don't get back to you or am not on board, it would be most likely due to another computer problem.

Ryan, try to uptake your water consumption as much as you can stand.

Mine has no blue pigment at all, it looks like a darker version of my own skin tone now. I'd guess a good 3 shades darker. Just sort of a brownish color- no longer looks like a bruise, just a dark circle that doesn't go all the way up to the inner eyelid. It starts at the inner part of the Iris and ends just outside the outer part of the Iris.

Ryan, I have the same type of stain going on where my FL doc did lipo on my jowls...drives me crazy...seems to get worse (darker) at times and I can't figure out why...its been nearly 6 months and still hanging on. I am going to derm next week and I will ask her for opinion.

Ryan, I have the same thing on my left chin, but it's a jagged line(from Carraway's microlipo) I think it is like a burn that can be created from the liposuction. I'd love if anyone has potential solutions also. I've been told it is permanent. This crazy guy took out all of the fat below my jawline, lateral chin areas, prejowl areas etc. You know, many of these areas they fill with fat /filler to restore a more youthful appearance. I can tell you that when it is gone, you look a fair bit older.

I had something similar happen after my lower bleph. It sounds like trapped dead blood cells under your skin. I wound up with these two brown spots (one dead center under each eye) that I put concealer over, then when the first one went away, I just left the other spot exposed, as it did not look too weird all alone.

Well in my case I had no bruising or discoloring of the area that was actually lipo'd whatsoever. Totally weird as i was expecting there to be major bruising in the cheeks but I had none. Totally odd that I had a blackeye given I had no lipo near that area and the entry point of the cannula was a good inch below the discolored area. I am not blaming Carraway as he did a great job on me - I got exactly the results I wanted and am actually surprised at how smooth of a transition I have with no lines of demarcation. My nlf's are the last to deflate, but he did a lot of work on them and they are coming down slowly. He flat out told me that this was not a 'perfect' procedure and that he had mixed results but I was willing to take the gamble and am glad I did. The prolonged blackeye is not IMO a result of bad technique, just a part of my individual healing process.

Ryan, I also had no bruising to the area effected, but I think it is a risk of all liposuction (as the cannula passes superficially towards the skin) I'm happy you got the results you wanted. I'll leave the rest alone. Mine is clearly a brown, jagged staining, not bruising.

Think it's called hemosporin (sp?) staining.

I'll add my own 2-cents' worth. After my midface lift(Endotine implants), neck lift & other face work done back in 2004, I developed two sideburn-shaped "stains" way under my skin. They run down my cheeks from just below the ear line (but on the cheeks only) about 1.25 inches long, right into the hollows of my cheeks.

I just assumed that the area had been so traumatized with the Endotine leash and chipmunk swelling of my cheeks, or tissue being pulled back for the neck left, or something having been done in that area, that as others speculate here, I got some kind of blood vessel/hemosporin stain.

It's been almost 6 years, and the stains have slllLLLLOOOOWWWwwwwly faded. I can still see them in certain light, but due to their location, it just looks more like hollow cheeks than a stain.

You could ask your PS about this area under your eye; or try the laser route, or even try using warm compresses or light massage to see if you can free up any trapped blood. I use that technique on bruises after getting Juvey injections, and the combination of warm/hot compress, light massage and Arnica gel seem to fade the bruises completely in about 10 days. But then, those are real surface area bruises, not the deep down stain I think you may have under your eye.

Good luck on getting this resolved.

Have you tried taking digestive enzymes away from meals to act as an anti inflammatory and to speed healing? Traumeel gel and drops (take orally with water) also can work wonders to help get rid of bruising fast.

Hi, I also wonder what that discoloration is. I know it is not bruising, it is more like something happened to the skin which is left a little darker. Ok looking in some lighting, worse and obvious in neonlight. People get it from smartlipo quite often. Trauma to the skin?
I had a small bruise on my face and it took nearly 8 months to get away. Well not really a bruise in the end but discoloured skin. What helped was constant turnover of the skin (Retin A, Glycolic acid, Copper peptides).
My fathers bruises under and above the eye after an accident took a year to go away.

Yeah, I noticed a purple spot after that small Acculift procedure. I think that when fat is removed, more of the surface vessels can show. Also, in my case, steroid was injected, and both steroid and 5fu I know can cause hyperpigmentation, usually temporary.

In your case Ryan, it does sound like the hemosiderin staining Miss J mentioned, as I've had that before too. If the bruise was that bad, the small remants will stick around for a while. There is a product called Auriderm for black eyees, someone said it works well for that problem. The company itself or many plastic surgeons in NY should have it.

Ryan I think the Vitamin C would help with the healing of Bruise/discoloration.
I also hate taking pills/Vitamins and didnt use to take them before ,

but since Guyuron suggested the VitC,
i started taking 2 1000mg VitC pills a day and I healed much faster than previous ocations I had surgery, this
time the bruises went away quickly.
