I sat next to her on a short airplane flight. She seemed to be a genuinely nice person and seemed un-phased by Hollywood. She almost seemed like the next door neighbor type, and she was a bit kooky in a charming way.

Even restoring her top lip to that much fullness (as in pic posted by CG) would improve her overall look. I know SHE does not care, but it sure would make ME feel better-LOL.

I think what's happenning in this thread is a bleeding/melding of factors. Most everyone here agrees to the supreme importance of personality and depth of character. However we must absolutely not confuse physical appearance with character or personality. There are entirely distinct parameters that can be judge seperately. If I were to make a stone statue of her would future generations know what the personality was based on just the statue!
Fact: JLC has very wrinkled sun damaged skin - it is not consistent with normal (no PS here) looked after 52 year old skin. By any objective measure her upper lip is long (it is not ugly though) and her lips are thin. And none of this is deminished any by her not caring about it.
BTW is she at all related with Kevin Bacon?

Double-wow! That young JLC is a stunner - same striking bod ... And I really like how you erased the wrinkles on her face in the image with her current short, gray hair, CG! She looks so radiant - not so dried out like a corn husk. Geez, if I had a bod like that, I'd sure as hell want a face that fits it. I Bug U

More on that "degrees of separation" theory among actors: http://tinyurl.com/ydbz6msFascinating! Reminds me of when I was a kid - a huge Beatles fan, and I used to think: I bet George Harrison breathed the same air I'm inhaling now! Kim Novak might be another person with AIS and she was one of the most beautiful women of all time. This was something my sis was taught in med school about 30 years ago, that she became aware of her condition only after failure to conceive.
She was breathaking in "Bell, Book, and Candle."

JLC doesn't look remotely masculine when she was younger, just now with the awful haircut, bad skin and facial expressions. She just needs to put a little effort into softening herself up a little, her bone structure is great and skin/styling not so much. I don't think she has AIS or any other intersex condition (I think the media is so mean about saying things like that about celebs all the time), I just think she needs to not share a stylist with KD Lang.
 Redheads have more fun.

Nicole Kidman was labeled to have AIS until she gave birth. So was Cindy Crawford.

Hasn't she always been the 'tom boy' type?? Well, I guess as one gets older, that could look as 'masculine' in a way.
I've been having problems with computer since May. I'm on a loaner now and still waiting for a new one. If I don't get back to you or am not on board, it would be most likely due to another computer problem.

And DC - yes we may be shallow - but I would rather take that than a "holier than thou" attitude that she has - I actually don't know if its a holier than thou attitude - maybe she's just clueless about the "real world" that us normal people live in - and actually coming back to the "shallow" part DC - I don't think we are necessarily shallow - since we are not fortunate enough to have Jamie Curtis's money and fame we have to use whatever tools we have to fend for ourselves - (and one of those tools is PS) -in terms of finding a job, relationship etc. and you know how a pleasing appearance goes a long way in both these areas - If Jamie Lee Curtis was a "normal" woman like us I'm sure she would be concerned about not looking too wrinkled when going for an interview or on a hot date - she lives in a rareified world and should not be giving the general population advice - what has worked for her will not work for about 80% of the population.
I tend to think actresses are under a lot more pressure than the rest of us to 'keep up' their appearance. Their looks are scrutinized by the public (in the tabloids, on the internet, and such), their images are blown up on the big screen, and their ability to get work often depends on how young and attractive they look. Just my two cents :)

Well it looks like she has breast implants in the younger photo- so I wonder why she has stopped there?

I agree with Marsh. Women in Hollywood over a certain age (say past 40) feel a tremendous amount of pressure to maintain and improve their appearance (often through surgery/dermatology) in order to remain viable. Magazines such as National Inquirer do absolutely nothing to discourage this pressure by posting pictures of older stars without their makeup or by poking fun of their bodies at the beach in bathing suits. Jamie Lee Curtis admitted in a 2002 issue of More Magazine (a magazine devoted to "older" women) to bowing to that pressure at some point and not being happy about it. I don't have the direct quote, but she was interviewed and admitted to having Botox and liposuction and wasn't happy with it, saying something to the effect that it wasn't the magic wand that she thought it would be (I think in another article she admitted to lower lid surgery). For those reasons, she says that she's happy now just aging naturally. I've attached a picture taken for the magazine which was basically her saying, "This is the real me." She's lucky enough to have had a great career up to the point that she started to age, to have made a good amount of money and also to have had what seems to be a successful marriage. That being said, perhaps if she'd chosen a different surgeon and had procedures more on target with what she really "needed", she might still be dabbling in cosmetic fixes. While it certainly looks like she could benefit from some help cosmetically, kudos to her for saying, "I tried it and it didn't work for me." http://preview.tinyurl.com/yfoejpy(Edited for accuracy and to provide link)

Correct me if I'm wrong but my impression was she admitted to having BDD, and the publishing of the photographs was part of her healing and coming clean about her appearance.

I didn't infer that from this particular article, but apparently she's done a lot of interviews since then talking about her struggles, including drug addiction, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was some BDD going on with her. She does describe her feelings as "irrational" in something I just read. I attached another link in which she says she became addicted to painkillers after being prescribed them for her lower lid surgery. I guess my point, if there is any at all to my rambling (lol) is that she has indeed had surgery, but she wasn't happy with it and it didn't make her happy with herself, so she's taken the "age gracefully" route. http://tinyurl.com/yknw4c7stache wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong but my impression was she admitted to having BDD, and the publishing of the photographs was part of her healing and coming clean about her appearance.

OMG. That photo of JLC from 2002. Ow. Hurts me to look at it. I am no gym rat, but even at 54 I simply could not live with a body that soft. Do those crunches! Don't starve. But stay active and fit, and let that healthy lifestyle result in a decent body - at nearly any age. I Bug U
