The last couple of days I have been having to wait for pages to load on this site. Any technical changes happening here?
It is usually very fast.

That was happening to me too. But happening at same time I was having problems getting other sites to load which makes it hard for me to say if it's my site or my computer or just the internet being slow. Presently, it's working OK. (Knock on wood)

I've been having problems with computer since May. I'm on a loaner now and still waiting for a new one. If I don't get back to you or am not on board, it would be most likely due to another computer problem.

Happening to me too. Oddly, it is also happening at MMH, and there's a thread there started today about it.

Yes, it's been loading slower (off and on) since Saturday or so.

I have been having terrible problems with computer slowness. But i fixed some. I never can tell if it's my site or the other site or the internet in genral or the computer. For example, someone PMed me on MMH and that was a BITCH getting on that site but at similar time, mine was lagging too. So, don't know if it's my computer, the internet traffic or the sites themselves.

Yes, I think it is timing out every now and then. Sometimes no issues, other times EXTREMLY sluggish or hangs.

It might also have something to do with a lot of photos being put up

Could be, but that would default to your database being about full, or some kind of corruption. TT will know, or be able to find out, once he's back in touch--I'm sure.

I talked to him on the phone today and asked him to respond. What he told me on the phone was that it might have something to do with the error message on the bottom of the page (admin can see that but I don't know if everyone else can) where it says something about error sending e-mails. He's not sure though. He also said that the specialized tech help for this software is about $75/hour to get the people who designed the soft ware to fix it. I'm still waiting to see if he can do anything.

What I might end up doing is nixing the new sign ups for a while as too much growth is just going to cost too much extra money on my part given that I don't take google ads or any of the other commercial stuff including doc sponsors which I feel put a CRAMP on a lot of what can be said.

On one hand non-commercialism, IMHO, makes a more informative board which I guess is attracting more new sign ups. Only like 1 in 20 is willing to chip in even $10 to help with costs. So, I might try nixing the new sign ups to see if that helps.

I would say that some of it might be from the size of the DB (forum) or number of posts, but since it is not a consistent thing (does not happen all of the time), it leads me to think it might be bandwidth issues, or the software just needs updating. Some forums can be constrained in older versions, whereas newer versions can handle more volume(posts). I understand why you don't want to do the upgrade, so it may be time to do some 'pruning' (really old, psyche posts for instance and see if that helps any---by reducing the disk space the forum takes (reduce size of DB).

There is an option to 'prune' topics. But what that does is remove whole strings of posts if the last post in the string is older than 60 days.

It's fast and slow OFF and ON--like sometimes real fast and sometimes lags. So, ya, it's not consistent. Even if I paid the soft ware developer to make it work better, I would need tech teddy to interceed or communicate with the person who fixes the software. I'll ask him again.
