Does anyone have one of those VITA MIX machines? I've seen them in mags for years and seen them demonstrated at home shows. they make soup and ice cream and bread--maybe they act as juicer too--not sure.

I've been having problems with computer since May. I'm on a loaner now and still waiting for a new one. If I don't get back to you or am not on board, it would be most likely due to another computer problem.

I do not have one (being the whole food person I am, I am not big on any type of isolation), but I do know quite a few raw foodist who love their Vita Mix machines, using it for everything from juice and smoothies to making snack bars and raw pasta. Worth the money from what I have heard.

Maybe I should get one of those.

BlendTec is number 1 ..it will juice everything and no pulp at all. The vita
mix is great also but Blendtec is simply fab.

Check Blend tec on youtube.

I have a 30 year old osteriser blender. It works great compared to the new blenders.Anyway, the latest thing for smoothies is to add greens into your drink along with fruit. The fruit masks the taste of the greens. I put in many "superfood" ingredients and it tastes good and is quite filling. Here's the list:
pomergranete juice, soymilk, water, any fruit- frozen or fresh, greens such as chard, spinach etc., goji berries, chia seeds, nutritional yeast, cinnamon, tumeric, green vibrance(from the health food store and has tons of probiotics and enzymes). You can also but in flax oil.

This is a nice comparison of juicers. the author compares peroxidase activity, pulp weight, and juice weight.

Comparison of juice extractors: enzymes

I tried to post the link but it didn't work so you can google for the pdf.

I have a cheap one (my third, I tend to use them to death and kill motors). Yes, it's better to eat the whole food because the soluble fibers are very good for the circulatory system after they are fermented by intestinal bacteria into short-chain fatty acids.

But they are a good adjunct to people who are already eating lots of vegetables and fruits and want even more. I cook the pulp frin the juicer with the rest of the dog food so nothing gets wasted.

Mine is a pain in the ass and so much so, I don't bother juicing anymore. It's a WARING kitchen classic. Although it's good mechanically at juicing, the damned thing has a drum with a ledged lip over it which makes it a bitch to clean. The drum is the centrifuge part. But that lipped band over it makes it difficult to clean unless you buy a lot of the paper things to line the drum. Maybe I should just splurge and order the paper liners.

My mom has a vitamix and it's great. She wouldnt normally spend so much on a blender but it works much better and has lasted much longer than cheaper blenders.

Vitamix has been around for years. It is the best product.
