A doctor told me before that if I choose to have rhinoplasty that it would not make me more prettier.

ASHLEE SIMPSON has confessed an operation to change the shape of her nose has not made her any prettier. The 23-year-old insists she hated her image before undergoing a rhinoplasty operation to correct her misshapen nose in 2006. But Simpson admits the surgery has not improved her looks. She tells Usmagazine, "(Plastic surgery) is something that everybody should think about for a really long time. Once you know it's something you really feel comfortable with, then to each their own. "I was never really unhappy with how I looked, (and) I don't think I am more beautiful than I was (before).

The rest of Ashlee's face was quite attractive and it was ONLY her nose that deterred from that. So, nixing her nose 'opened up' the rest of her face that was attractive to begin with.

Some people have MORE going on with their entire face structure than just the nose. Like when I got my nose done, it relieved me of having a BIG NOSE (that people made fun of and ridiculed me for in grammer and high school) but with it gone, I could then see the other problems I had to my face; one bieng a maxillo-faciald disharmony of how the jaws are aligned.

I like this question and have been wishing more of you would chime in with your thoughts. I've have had a hang-up about my nose since college. I dated a guy from Poland (he was a superficial and cold person-perfect "east block" stereotype). He told me-well, I won't tell you precisely how he said it-it would offend. I'm caucasian-he said my nose is wrong for me. Prior to that, I thought nothing much about my nose. Now, all I see is a bugle, a Bert & Ernie nose.

Fat grafting helped-a lot. Yet......(I hope at least one of you comprehends how stupid remarks can stay with you, despite what others say. My doctor tells me it suits me--and I believe he means it.

Without being immodest, I LOVE my profile. I wouldn't want to change it, even a smidge. I always look at rhino. bef./af.s and wonder WHY doctors tend to feature the profile without (often) showing us the frontal. I still wish I could improve the frontal view without impacting the profile. Can that be done? Miss J? Anyone?

Frontal is harder for them to do because it usually involves breaking the nose bridge bones and bringing them closer together or altering them specifically for the frontal view. That and refining and shaping the cartilage lateral to the center tip of the nose.

Hey Miss J,

I would say that I am more attractive than Ashlee Simpson (not to be vain). The doctor did say to me that a nose job will not make me more attractive. So it makes me think, how much does a nice nose really improve your looks?

I know Angelina Jolie got a nose job and she looks more stunning after the nose job.

At this point I need to ask: Which doctor told you this? Was it a nose specialist or just a 'garden variety' PS? That's a type of question where I would need to answer 'visually' which means I would need to morph the nose to see if that did anything for you.

Sorry O/T...MissJ--Do YOU think Angelina Jolie has had rhino.??? I'm very curious what you believe, as I just don't believe she's had anything at all. I hate her!! LOL, JK. She's so dang gorgeous and seems to have universal appeal (at least physically). I think the changes we've seen are due to age (like all of us) and perhaps the drastic weight loss. I thought she looked even more beautiful heavier.

Yes. I think she has had a rhino and some jaw/chin work also.

I took one of her earlier photos and compared it to a later photo and then basically changed the contour of the nose and chin to be closer to the contour of later photo. So, that's why I say: 'yes' she had a rhino.

To answer your question "how much can a rhinoplasty change a face?"

Given the fact that the nose projects further than any other facal feature AND the fact that the nose is right in the middle of the face...it is no surprise that a rhinoplasty CAN produce a DRAMATIC result.

Dramatic results:

Subtle results:

I think Angelina Jolie had work done and although she was cute before I think the work pushed her beyond that to beautiful. The pix of her that were posted in my view prove she had the work, ones nose doesn't change from cute as a button turned up - to straight, thinner and almost perfect on its own, the entire shape is different. I agree she has had chin work as well.

So to answer the question if a nose work can change a face, the answer in my book is yes. Certainly everyone will recognize you after but it can take your look up a notch for sure. I think the key to getting results that are like Angelina's are finding the right doctor with the right aesthetic. The nose has to related correctly to the face. Look at lots of pix and be sure your surgeon isn't putting the same nose on everyone.

Back in the last 70's or early 80's I had a good friend that has an awful nose, she was small and petite and had this huge hooked off center nose. She got a Michelle Phiffer nose which was a vast improvement over what she had and she looks good to this day. But sort of a cookie cutter nose that would not fit every face. Another GF of mine got her nose done 2 years ago and got that 80's nose. Again, its fine but something else could have been better on her face.

I have had my nose worked on twice, 20 years apart. I'm very happy with it now but its not a small nose say like angelina's I had a long nose to begin with and its my view that I look best with that so I just had it thinned out and straightened and I'm very happy with it. In my case it didn't change my face much because the work was quite subtle.

We don't know if it's a chin implant or a sliding and drop down genioplasty (bone cutting) combo. I think it's a bone cut because there is some vertical length to it in addition to some projection. Her nose BRIDGE is definitely augmented and her chin contour kind of diagonally elongated.

She looks like she had a brow lift of some sort because her forehead is bigger in the second picture - the hair line raised. Supposely she had gotten another browlift after she had these twin this past summer. Some people (industry people) are hoping no more brow lifts because her forehead is becoming too prominant. AJ plastic surgery aint no secret - especially now that she has her own "you tube" video dedicated to her evolution. a friend who works in the conde naste building under a specific devil said half the clicks on the you tube video of angelina .. came from this particular publication that she has been on the cover of several times. they joke about her "natural beauty."... ahhh... the PR machines of studios well done...well played. Along as the majority of the public believes the hype - that is all that matters.

Julia,
I have a post on here somewhere (but don't know where) where I took a good guess at the procedures AJ had and put photo comparisons up. Ya, I think a brow lift was one of them. She is the type that is natural beauty though meaning some PS is really going to glamorize her.

Depends on what Dr you ask, some will say a nose can make all the difference in the world which I have to agree with because my sister had a nose job when she was 16 and it changed her life forever! However you ask a Doctor like Dr Palmer or Dr Calvert and they feel cheekbones make most of a dramatic difference...so I guess it really does depend on the Dr. I say its alittle 50/50 both nose and cheeks.

I think it can make you prettier also by pushing you a little or a lot more over the border of where your at to begin with in the first place,if you already know where your at,with really good results,it should be easier to tell just how much of a difference Rhinoplasty has made you.Sometimes I can look at the before's and looks to me like not much was done to the nose to create a big diference or the before looks better then the after.Luckily I don't think that happens a lot, I hope not.

i do think it depends...for instance, some tv celebrity (i forget which--will change this later when her name occurs to me) had a nose job and i honestly couldn't see a difference until i was told (and even then, it was only..eh). the same with a lot of the pictures you see on doctor's websites--some faces change a lot, some not as dramatically. depends on what you're doing to the nose as well, i suppose.
