Hope that all is going well for you. Was just wondering how the healing phase is going. I know I'd be a wreck and staring in the mirror all day worrying. Hopefully that's not happening with you. Take care!

Hi Mike D,

Thanks for asking. It's going pretty well. It's been a week and one day. There has been no pain at all. The sides of my face are pretty hard and stretched which the nurse said is why the area under the cheekbones looks concave. The scariest part is that it feels like it's going to stay that way, that whatever the final results are will be close to how I look now. The nurse did remove all sutures and drains. I will be seeing the doctor next week. I did have to schedule that myself because I didn't feel like waiting over a month to see the surgeon. I have emailed him and he does respond pretty quickly. I have the mirror covered which helps in avoiding looking at myself. Being able to go to the market is a good thing though. If I know the checker I just say I was in an accident or had major dental surgery. Nobody in my family knows about this. I want to take off from work another three weeks. Hopefully the swelling will have subsided significantly.

Hi,

Pleased to hear your recovering well and able to venture out. Are you happy about the improvement in your scarring. Was your Doc able to remove all your problem scarring around your ears?

Great news that you've had no pain. I'bet once the swelling is resolved, you will like the look of the results much better!

Continued healing!

Dave-

Glad to hear that the healing is going as well as expected. I'm sure that the nurse is right about the concave area. He does a lot with his facelifts, so some temporary distortion is to be expected. As well, just about every Marten patient reports it early on, but has fantastic results in the end. How do your incision lines look at this point?

Thanks for responding...good to hear that you are up and about to some extent. Take it easy, and enjoy the time away from work.

it must be difficult for a male to deal with the post op swelling from a facelift. something about being a male and dealing with all the distortion and swelling can make you feel like a freak.

i think 3-4 weeks is a big turning point. most say by the 3rd month, they are loving it.

if it makes you feel better, i personally saw a beautiful and flawless facelift from Marten on male patient. i had dinner with this person and would have never guessed. it was a very good facelift.

Do you have very prominent cheek bones? Lifts 'relax' in a month or so. So, I'd be surprised if you kept the hollowed stretched out appearance. Lifts can look/feel TIGHT for a while and then they 'relax'.

Ya, Marten is pretty good. He has an interest in architecture and that is a good sign when a PS has an interest in architecture simply because balance and structural concepts in architectural constructs 'spill over' into facial balance and form.

The scars look infinitely better but it's still too early to judge because the original ones from the first surgery didn't start to become hypertrophic until about the first month. So its kind of wait and see for me.
I don't have prominent cheek bones at all. It will be nice when the tightness goes away as long as the jowls don't return like they did after a month after the original surgery. But that was a superficial and poorly done surgery. Does the "relaxing" of the tissues mean the swelling has decreased?
It is strange being a male and having the swelling and black and blue. Dental Implant surgery or a car crash are good excuses. Actually, I think most people wouldn't think facelift without being told specifically.
I will be seeing the doctor this Thursday. Will let you know how it goes.

if youre prone to this kind scar you need to treat them before they become hypertrophic. fraxel on fresh scars works well.

Maybe you could ask Marten what to put on those incisions before they become hypertrophic. Aloe? Arnica gel? Also, scars come from collagen ... so monitor your intake of Vit C, which helps BUILD collagen.

I'm no doc, but my guess is that "relaxing" tissues is directly related to the degree of swelling going DOWN. After my MFL and brow lift, I felt like I was peering out of a tight rubber mask for easily 5 weeks. The swelling from that continued for 3 months - and boy did I love it on my cheeks! Finally deflated around 7 mos post. Sad was the day.

I actually find that men can look more natural all beat-up than WOMEN. Try answering your door when the handyman comes 'round to fix an appliance, sees a bruise the size of a walnut on your chin, blinks, pretends not to notice .... till you simply have to 'fess up: YES! I say, "Pay no attention to that big bruise. My hubby didn't punch me, I just had Juvederm injections cuz I am a shallow, vain and insecure old lady who's desperately clinging to some particle of youth."

Well, that's what THEY'RE thinking, so may as well confirm it for their own sense of gestalt.

The jowls will most likely be GONE as Marten does somewhat similar to Feldman during under chin incision which is to cut down part of the salivary gland which sometimes turns out to be that 'jowl that did not go away' in a prior face lift. Relaxing tissue relates to the area NOT being as TIGHT as when 'fresh'
