Here are some products which I have selected, many of which are based on positive feedback of what members here like. Some of which have little feedback here but none the less are intriguing to mention. I've tried to stick to products that people ALREADY use for the most part and are going to buy anyway. So, I would ask anyone here interested in helping to support my board, to purchase the same products you would be purchasing anyway through my little store here.
I'll be adding more products to my store when ever I get more feedback as to which products my members like using. Thank you in advance for helping to support my site by purchasing from my store.
Moroccan Oil: This product is formulated with Argon oil from a tree that grows in Morocco in addition to some high tech silicones. Members report it tames frizzy fly aways and keeps the hair soft, smooth and shiny without weighing it down. |
Living Proof Straight Making No Frizz Products: This product was formulated at my own Alma Mater, MIT. The key ingredient is a fluoropolymer similar to "Teflon". Fluoropolymers coat the surface of the hair to form somewhat of a friction free and water proof surface so that dirt, dust and grease don't stick to it as much and also so the hair shaft does not absorb that much moisture. (Hair strands absorbing moisture such as in humid environs result in "frizz"). There are many posts on my board by a very happy member who is delighted with this product: "Larazelle". |
Joico K Pak Moisture Intense Hydrator for Dry and Damaged Hair: One of my members, kk25, sent me some of this stuff as a gift. Thanks again, kk25! It made a very nice difference to my hair. It's formulated with protein chains the fill in dents and dingies to the hair shaft, fortify it and make it stronger and shinier. Click here for forum discussion. |
John Frieda's Luminous Color Glaze: "Ryan," a hairdresser on the board, likes this product. Click here for forum discussion. |
Kerastase Products: When I was in the Allure studios getting my hair done by the same stylists who prep the celebs for photo shoots, they used this product line. One of my hair dresser members; kk25 also likes it and what kk25 likes I like. LOL. Click here for forum discussion. |
Chi Ceramic Flat Irons (for making the hair straight and smooth): This thing works much better than the cheaper flat irons you get at the drug store. It's one of the brands that the hairdressers use. Click here for forum discussion. |
Chemical Hair Straighteners: Ogilvie: This is a product I use myself for my coarse, wiry, wavy, frizzy unruly hair. I use it 2X/year to make sure I have enough grow out to avoid getting it on prior processed hair. It works by breaking the strong double sulfur bonds that kind of 'kink' the hair. Yes, it acts on the principle of 'chemical damage'. But if you have unruly coarse hair that is wavy, wiry etc, the chemical bonds in the hair doing that do need to be broken. Busting up a chemical bond could be considered 'chemical damage' but the type of damage needed to be done to get it straighter or more manageable. I might be the only user on here for this particular product. But since I use it myself, I'm now going to be buying it from my own store. |
|
Sun Blocks - Anthelios Products: I get consistent positive feedback from my members about this line of sunblock products. |
Copper Peptide Products sold by Neutrogena: I have one member, "Foxskier", who has done tons of research on CPs and likes them very much. The original formulator for CPs; Dr. Pickart has licensed his formulas to Neutrogena; a company with a good reputation for skin care products. It's best to start off with the more gentle formulas containing the CPs because some people do report pimple like things with the stronger formulas. Hence, I would suggest starting off with the Neutrogena products that are more targeted to "beginners". |
Neutrogena Ageless intensives Deep wrinkle Serum: I have some members who are happy with this product. Click here for forum discussion. |
Revive Moisturizing Renewal Cream: This product is very pricey. Your best bet for the entire line, if you are to choose one product from it, would be this cream. I've met the formulator myself, was given samples and the stuff worked great for me. Also got some as gifts from member; "sam" who loves the stuff. It's formulated with growth factors. If I could foot the bill for this product, I would use it more often. LOL. Click here for forum discussion. |
Obagi Products: A lot of derms and aestheticians suggest this particular line of products for exfoliating the skin, lightening dark spots and giving it better tone. It's a pretty good pre-professional peel program to prep yourself for a pro peel from a derm. However, since there are SO MANY products from this particular line, there is a type of 'order' or strategic protocol involved regarding which ones to use first and in which order and for that, you might need a little advice or coaching from some of the members who use this product or of course if you have an aesthetician. Yes, you can purchase directly from your aesthetician or other sellers. But it would be it would be a NICE way to give back to the Miss J board who provides venue for collective support via feedback of these products by purchasing them from my store in the event you use them already and already like them. |
"Is Clinical" Active Serum: I have a (medical) member who likes this product and sent me some to try. I also like it. Click here for forum discussion. |
Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream: This product got some pretty good reviews from Consumer Reports as working pretty much as well as other high end, high priced products. One of my members gave me some as a gift and I liked the product too. Click here for forum discussion. |
TNS Serum by Skin Medica: This product is sold at plastic surgery meetings. The manufacturers set up booths there . It's made from clipped foreskins of new born babies, which kind of gives it a 'yecch!!' factor and does not smell too good. But some people seem to like the stuff. It has its followers in the PS patient crowd. Not something I've tried myself simply because I can't get past the image of foreskins all over my face, LOL. I used to have a member (nurse aesthetician) who liked and sold this particular product. But don't seem to have many members who use the stuff. None the less, the gross out factor of what it's made from, although makes it very resistible for my to try the stuff myself, makes it irresistible not to mention. |
Revale Coffeberry cream: OK, this stuff, (to the best of my knowledge) was first 'info hyped' in Allure mag as being some kind of anti-oxidant breakthrough. It's made from the outer skins of the coffee beans. Coffee beans are actually the inside of something that looks like a little red berry. So, the 'skin' or 'husk' of the berry is basically a bi-product of the coffee industry or waste product. Fair trade coffee sellers usually just put the stuff back into the soil as compost. For a bi-product of the coffee industry that probably is sold at a low price to the raw product buyers, it seems on the very pricey side to me. I have no feedback or idea if it's worth it. Just to say, IF you are going to try the stuff anyway, purchase from my store and be my guest to leave feedback about the stuff. Click here for forum discussion. |
Dermal Roller: These are a roller devices with tiny tiny little micro needles which when rolled over the skin help to get the products you are using to penetrate deeper into the skin. Of all the brands listed, I have no idea which one is the best. I will say that the concept of the device is a good one. Just don't press too hard with it and start off gently. It's based on what is called "needling". Needling is done with a 'dry' tattoo needle (no ink in it). The inflammatory response to it is collagen induction to the skin. The pros (derms) use a more 'vicious' model of the device which actually does pierce the skin as to induce the inflammatory response of collagen induction; a wound healing response. I would certainly not suggest the pro models the derms use unless you can get your derm to use it on you. However, the models listed here do seem to be for general use by the non medical professional which is your safer bet to start off with. |
Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel: This is a skin peel product formulated with organic ingredients. "Barbiegirl"; a nutritionist and organic beauty herself loves this product. Click here for forum discussion. |
|
Exfoliation - Salux Nylon Japanese Beauty Skin Bath Wash Cloth/Towel: This is a wash cloth that's good at exfoliating and also inexpensive. Click here for forum discussion. |
Lac Hydrin: This is a very effective alpha hydroxy formula cream for the body. Great at getting rid of the flakies. Click here for forum discussion. |
